Polish euro deputies denied entry to Belarus

Radio Polonia:
A group of Polish euro deputies has been denied entry to Belarus where they wanted to visit the city of Grodno in gesture of support for the Polish minority. The delegation was headed by Jacek Sariusz-Wolski responsible for eastern policies at the European Parliament. According to official information the aim of the visit was to learn about the situation of minorities in Belarus and inspect the observance of human rights there. They were also to meet with Angelika Borys, the leader of the Union of Poles in Belarus and with members of the Belorussian opposition. To Poles living in Belarus recent visits of Polish politicians have been of special importance. According to local leaders of the Union of Poles in Belarus the visits provide necessary support for their campaign .
